A Guide to the Festival of Art Franschhoek
Posted on the March 13th, 2018
There’s a new kid on the block on the Franschhoek Festival scene this year – the much anticipated Festival of Art in Franschhoek. This two-day festival launches for the very first time on the 17th and 18th of March 2018, taking culture in the valley to a whole different level.
This outdoor festival is showcasing a number of unique art works and takes place over three different venues; Bridge House School, Eikehof Wine Estate and La Bri Estate, each of which represent something special about the Franschhoek valley.
Bridge House School will host a variety of performance art, interactive events suitable for all ages, and the featured South African artist will be Selwyn Pekeur. Nanette Ranger will be showcasing her work at Eikehof Wine Estate, which will also offer a chance for festival goers to sample the craft of wine making. La Bri will host painter Roland West in this spectacular venue which combines the modern and the traditional. Expect oysters, fine art and modern photography.
The aim of organisers is to offer exposure to a wider range of artists, incorporating arts such as street performers, mine acts and jugglers to name a few, while at the same time celebrating established South African artists. With a variety of food stalls, performance art, and activities for kids, this event is bound to take the art world by storm. By mixing up what is traditionally featured at events of this nature, Festival of Art Franschhoek ensures opportunities to local artists, and renders the art world accessible to a larger audience. Tickets are R280 per person per day and can be purchased here.
