Franschhoek Kids Halloween Walk
The weekend of costumes, scary masks and pumpkin heads is upon us. What better way for the young ones to celebrate Halloween than with an evening of trick-or-treating through beautiful Franschhoek. Across the country, this spooky holiday will likely be observed on Saturday 28 October, due to the fact that Halloween falls on a Tuesday this year. Such is the case with the inaugural Franschhoek Kids Halloween Walk.
The route, which stretches from Foliage Restaurant to Le Coin Francais, includes stops such as Leeu House, Tuk Tuk, Le Quartier Francais, Reubens, and Allora. There will be two separate groups making their way through the town during the evening, both departing at 17h00. Group 1 will set off from Foliage, and Group 2 begins their walk from Le Coin Francais.
Tickets for this exciting event cost just R120 per child, and are available for purchase at Foliage from 15h00 – 17h00, Monday to Saturday. If you’d like to reserve a ticket, simply email firstname.lastname@example.org or call 021 876 2328. Even more enticing, for just R350 per person, Foliage will be providing canapes and a glass of wine for all the parents waiting for their kids. All the proceeds from the Franschhoek Kids Halloween Walk will go to the Franschhoek SPCA.
Mariott Classic Music Festival
If you’re in the mood for a weekend of soothing tunes, delectable food and sophistication, then the Marriott Classic Music Festival in Franschhoek is for you. Taking place from 27 – 28 October, this refined event will see a series of concerts taking place at the historic NG Church and Cafe Bon Bon at La Petite Dauphine.
The weekend opens with a performance by the newly-formed Juliet String Quartet at NG Church on Friday at 19h30. Next up, on Saturday at 11h30 at the same venue, is Conversations with my Piano – a musical ‘piano ping pong’ performance by Darius Brubeck and Christopher Duigan. The last event at the NG Church takes place on Sunday at 12h00, and is entitled The Music of Chopin Vol II, by pianist Christopher Duigan. It is a follow-up to ‘The Music of Chopin’ which Duigan performed over 40 times across the country, and recorded on CD.
The first of two performances at Cafe Bon Bon – the Grand Soiree: Grand Voices – takes place at 19h00 on Saturday. For just R550 per person, enjoy an enthralling evening of opera featuring three of South Africa’s most prolific voices, and a mouth-watering three-course meal. The final event of the weekend, Bon Bon Finale, takes place at 13h00 on Sunday, costs R450 per person, and includes a delicious 3-course meal. With a jazz performance by pianist Darius Brubeck, and various other musicians, it will definitely be a performance fit to wrap up this incredible weekend.
Protea Party at Anthonij Rupert Wyne
Anthonij Rupert Wyne’s annual celebration – the Protea Party – takes place on Saturday 28 October this year. An evening of world-class wine, fine food, stunning views and exceptional hospitality, it has become one of the most popular events on the Franschhoek social calendar. Established to celebrate the spirit of the Protea wine range, the venue for this prestigious event is the Anthonij Rupert Tasting Room, which boasts stunning views across the Franschhoek Wine Valley.
It all kicks off at sunset with a round of mouth-watering Protea-inspired cocktails to welcome the guests. These will be accompanied by a three-course harvest-style selection of dishes, showcasing the impressive local produce. The various Protea wines will be available to sample throughout the course of the evening, and toe-tapping live music will provide a delightful sensory backdrop. If things get really festive, guests are welcome to make their way to the dance floor to show off their moves.
Tickets for the Protea Party at Anthonij Rupert Wyne cost R550 per person, and can be purchased here. Pre-booking is essential, and tickets are running out fast, so make sure to book yours today!
