Earth Hour Giving the world an hour...for the rest of our lives.

One of the greatest challenges facing South Africa and the rest of the world is climate change. "We are running out of time to reverse our impact on the planet and the misery it will cause" laments Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu, the patron of Earth Hour 2009, urging South Africans to take a stand.

At a time when economic pressures are high, and anxiety about the worlds' economic and environmental futures are burdening governments and its people, there could be no better time to advocate solutions driven action that will make a positive difference.

So how does humanity reduce the sting to come?

We simply have to act individually and collectively to reduce our impact on the world. There's no shortage of how... it's just that it needs to be done by enough people. And acting on it must be impressed upon the government and leaders who will meet in Copenhagen at the Climate Change Conference in December 2009.

In 2008, 50 million people across 35 countries switched off their lights for one hour. This year, Earth Hour will be the culmination of one billion people around the globe, in more than 1000 cities(including Sydney (Australia), London (UK), Rome (Italy), Dubai (UAE), Los Angeles (USA) and Rio de Janeiro (Brazil) in a major call to action for every individual, government and business to take responsibility and play a part in ensuring a sustainable future. Iconic buildings and landmarks across Africa, Europe, Asia-Pacific, the Middle East and The Americas will go dark.

People will join together to celebrate, discuss and think about the future.

WWF South Africa has launched an exciting national campaign to get 1 million dwellings and offices to switch off their lights and 3 million South Africans to sign up on www.earthhour.org.za.

To demonstrate South Africa's commitment the lights illuminating Table Mountain will also be switched off for an hour on 28 March!

The Le Franschhoek Hotel and Spa team willingly accepts the social responsibility for social justice, sustainable development and a more sustainable world.

As a valued guest, join us on Saturday, 28 March 2009, as we join hands with the rest of the world by switching off our property lights at the same time (between 20h30 to 21h30) to show we care about our impact on the planet.

Thank you for standing together with us for this noble cause.
